Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County was awarded $2 million in federal funding to build over a dozen new homes in Bridgeport, Sen. Richard Blumenthal announced. The nonprofit builds around 10 homes a year for families in need. Once families move in the home, they're offered a mortgage - no interest and no down payment. "The mortgage never exceeds more than 30% of their household income," CEO Carolyn Vermont says. Blumenthal was in Bridgeport today to announce the grant. Vermont says the money will go toward building 14 single-family homes near Chopsey Hill Road and Summit Street in the Park City.
